Photoshop: The Basics

The following 10 lessons will walk you through some of the basic tools in Adobe Photoshop CS5. It would be worth viewing them directly on youtube and then choosing the highest quality to enable you to read any of the palettes or settings that will be configured. I advise that after watching each video you find a similar image (or any image) to have a play with yourself. If you do not have Photoshop at home then you can download a 30day demo off Adobe here. If you need to use it for an assignment don't waste these 30days now, wait until 30days before your deadline and then download it.

In this first lesson you will see how to set up your canvas for custom size or using the presets, also you will use the MOVE tool to drag images between multiple canvasses:

In this second lesson you will learn how to scale and rotate images in Adobe Photoshop, using the MOVE Tool and toolbar, and visiting the EDIT menu:

In this third lesson you will learn how to use selection tools to remove unwanted areas of images, and also how to subtly use Adjustment layers to change the colour range of an image:

In this fourth lesson you will learn how to use the perspective tool:

In this fifth lesson you will learn how to use the basic and advanced elements of the CROP tool:

The sixth lesson is where you will learn to use TEXT and be introduced to the BLENDING OPTIONS FX palette to perform a Stroke and Drop Shadow around the text.Well done for getting this far, you are doing well. Don't hesitate to send me a tweet @scmediapro showing me what you've created so far, upload it to the SCMedia Pro facebook page or respond to the blog.

In Lesson 7 you will learn how to add brushes to Photoshop and configure them.

In this session you will learn to use the adjustment layers in Photoshop, and also use new selection tools, fill tools and utilise the layers.

In this lesson you will be shown some of the many effects that Photoshop can create, and you will learn how to create a simple, yet effective background.

In this final lesson of "Photoshop: The Basics" you will discover how to apply basic compression techniques in Adobe Photoshop.
